To the delight of horror fans the world over, the official first trailer for the new adaptation of Stephen King's It has hit the Internet. So far, it appears to have surpassed the expectations of fans, as the trailer really is as horrifying as we could have ever imagined. Maybe we'll get lucky and get a red-band trailer down the road?
The film is based off of the novel written by acclaimed horror writer Stephen King, and a re-imagining of the two-part TV mini-series that was produced by ABC in 1990, where Tim Curry portrayed the sinister Pennywise the Clown (and resided in the nightmares of fans for many years to come). The original story takes place in the 1960s, with part one showcasing the lives of seven pre-teens whose lives fall into a living hell when they try to fight off an evil demon that terrorizes them, taking the shape of a sinister clown. The second part picks up when they are adults, as they return to the town and vow to kill of the damned thing.
It's unclear from the first look of the trailer what kind of time period this is set in, but it could very well remain faithful to the original and stay in the 1960s. Regardless, the trailer is spectacularly executed, giving us just enough to want us begging for more. The infamous sewer scene kicks us off in the right direction, sending a chill down our spines when... "it".... appears for just a moment. There's a rather unnerving scene in this trailer involving a slideshow projector. As for the last moment, well.....try not to scream. (Bravo, Bill Skarsgård. Curry will be proud.)
