he sSlims is one of the more intimate venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. Not as small as something like Bottom of the Hill, but not quite as big as a place like The Fillmore. Its intimacy makes it the perfect venue for a show like Sleeping With Sirens 'Up Close and Personal Tour' promoting their highly-anticipated new record, Gossip (out in stores September 22nd). It's not uncommon for a band of their stature to do a tour like this right before a major album cycle (All Time Low famously did this on the 'My Small Package' Tour in 2009 before their career skyrocketed them to theaters and arenas around the world, with the band opting to play smaller clubs with capacities in the hundreds). It's clear from their live show and the songs played in their band's show on the night of their tour kickoff in San Francisco that Gossip could be a game-changer for them, propelling them to a larger audience.

The band's tour kickoff showcased three unique openers, each bringing with them their own flair and style: Australian alternative rock act Chase Atlantic, classic-rock infused Palaye Royale, and the adrenaline-injected post-hardcore of The White Noise. The variation in music provided for an entertaining and interesting evening leading up to the headlining set from Sleeping With Sirens. The band's chaotic and enticing set kicked off with "Tally It Up: Settle The Score" from their sophomore album Let's Cheers To This, and proceed to move full-speed ahead with anthem-fueled rock choruses, engaging guitar riffs, and exemplary musicianship.

It's worth noting that a bulk of the sets' material came from the band's prior album Madness. If you're a band that is album to play music each tour from your most recent record, without fans demanding "play the old songs!" night after night, it means you're doing something right. It means that your newer music is touching people, and it's evident that Sleeping With Sirens have embraced their evolution. They've come a long way since their Rise Records post-hardcore debut With Ears To See and Eyes To Hear, with each record and tour shaping their sound a few steps forward each time. Time will tell, but given their trajectory Gossip could very well be their masterpiece, and the one that skyrockets them into the mainstream.
